Elena Kmetova joined CEU in 2009 after graduating from the University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Her interests in environmental issues and biodiversity protection originate from her work with the Green Balkans Federation of Nature Conservation NGOs, where, as a Conservation officer she has been involved with various conservation and education projects. Her current interests and work are related to reintroduction programs for rare and threatened species of birds (Saker falcon, Lesser kestrel, Griffon vulture) and the application of GIS methods as a decision-support system.
Kristina Rodina joined CEU in 2009 after graduating from the Faculty of Geography of the Moscow State University in Russia. Her scientific interests are mainly focused on water sector, i.e. sustainable use and protection of water resources, water security, IRBM, and transboundary water issues. Besides, her interests include application of GIS methods in environmental science, environmental modeling and remote sensing. Her research in the Moscow State University was related to the exploration of the regional water situation in Central Asia, including the terms papers on "The application of the scenario approach in terms of optimal use of water resources" and "Aggravation of water deficit in the region in the context of climate change". Her CEU master thesis is aimed at the identification and classification the new Central Asian lakes formed as a result of human-induced activity, in particular, the Aydar-Arnasay system of lakes in Uzbekistan, and analysis of their functions and future development.
